I'm hoping to reach out to all those who don't know, don't care, or maybe want to know!
Let's start with this one: Tik Tok
This app, which was formerly musicaly, is now under investigation by several Law enforcement agencies:
Now, apparently the data, videos, names, phone numbers, emails, etc that a person or child is divulging is being stored by the by the Chinese company that is now controlling it.
[ TikTok is an iOSand Androidsocial media video appfor creating and sharing short lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos. The app was launched in 2017 by Chinese developer ByteDance, for markets outside of China. ByteDance has previously launched Douyin (Chinese: 抖音) for the China market in September 2016. TikTok and Douyin are the same but run on different servers to comply with Chinese censorship restrictions. The application allows users to create short music and lip-syncvideos of 3 to 15 seconds[4][5]and short looping videos of 3 to 60 seconds. It is popular in Asia, the United States, and other parts of the world.[6]TikTok is not available in China, and its servers are based in countries where the app is available]
It's not even available in China! Well now....
This is becoming a growing trend of apps & websites, that are secretly storing and selling your information!
If your a parent like myself, I believe you should do some reading up on this app, and a few others used by your child. Most kids have that, it won't happen to me, or just the general surreal feeling of online social media. They do not understand what is actually going on. I hope this will help some people out there. Most will brush it off as a "thats the risk you take for using the app" But we have to start understanding, your information, is not yours anymore. If you are online in any way, no matter if it's a smart phone, tablet, laptop, or PC, you are being tracked.
It's time to bring this to everyone's attention!

Are you saying to not use TikTok? Or are you saying "it's okay to use it because every app steal info, you should just KNOW that it's doing that" ??
ReplyDeleteI was mainly bringing it to the attention of everyone, that this once great app, has now become a data mining platform. Not every app steals or stores your data, there are some great ones out there. The social media apps that everyone uses daily are the ones becoming hotbeds for data mining. I'm not saying don't use it, basically saying you need to update and/or add more security settings as to how your info is being used. It's your choice whether to keep using it or not. But usually, when something like this prompts the US Government to investigate, Something is wrong.
